Let’s be honest: have you purchased an exercise video? One of any type: Pilates, kickboxing, “buns of steel”, P90x, the list goes on!
I had one before I started doing Pilates, it was a Jillian Michaels’ dvd. It was when Biggest Loser was popular and while some find Jillian’s in your face style harsh, I didn’t mind it. I purchased the dvd to workout at home and save money after college. Gyms can be expensive! And intimidating if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Now, how often did you workout alongside your video? Did you see results? Did you understand what you were doing? Could you keep up with the instructor? These were the challenges I faced when doing Jillian’s workout.
Pilates and exercise videos have come a long way since the 90’s. You may have done a Mari Winsor Pilates video long ago! Technology has improved so much that you can watch a Pilates instructor live or have a Pilates session online personalized for you.
Exercise has changed since the 90’s along with our needs and wants. But one thing holds true: Pilates is here to stay. When practiced often and done correctly, it’s enjoyable, challenging, and fun! Pilates is for life! It’s not a 90’s fad that came and went, it’s forever.
